i-STAT BNP Cartridges

The i-STAT BNP test is an in vitro diagnostic test for the quantitative measurement of B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP) in whole blood or plasma samples using EDTA as the anticoagulant. BNP measurement can be used as an aid in the diagnosis and assessment of the severity of congestive heart failure.
The BNP Cartridge, used with the i-STAT®1 analyser, utilises biosensor technology and advanced microfluidics to provide in vitro quantitative determinations of the following analyte:
- B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP)

Q1. What is the analysis time for the BNP cartridges?
A1. The analysis time is 600 seconds (10 min)
Q2. How should the i-STAT cartridges be stored?
A2. Cartridges should be stored at temperatures between 2 and 8 °C (35-46°F). Do not expose to temperatures above 30°C (86°F). Do not use after the expiration date on the cartridge pouch and box. Cartridges have a room temperature storage expiry. (see Q4)
Q3. How long should a cartridge be taken out of the fridge before it can be used?
A3. Equilibrate a single cartridge for 5 minutes or a box of cartridges for 1 hour at room temperature before opening pouches.
Q4. Once removed from the fridge, how long will the cartridge remain stable for use?
A4. i-STAT BNP cartridges have a 14 day room temperature expiry. Mark the cartridge box or cartridge pouches with the room temperature expiry date.
Q5. Once cartridges have been equilibrated to room temperature and are not used, can they be returned to the fridge to increase their expiry?
A5. Do not return cartridges to the refrigerator after room temperature equilibration.
Q6. How long can a cartridge be removed from the pouch before use?
A6. Use the cartridge immediately after opening the pouch.
Q7. If a pouch is punctured or torn can the cartridge still be used.
A7. If the pouch has been punctured, the cartridge should not be used.
Q8. Are there any precautions I should take when handling a cartridge and how should it be held?
A8. Do not touch the electrodes at the top of the cartridge and hold it by the sides only.
Q9. What is the sample volume required for the BNP cartridges?
A9. 17µl
